"High school student Maron Kusakabe has a secret: she’s Phantom Thief Jeanne. She sneaks into private art collections to steal paintings in which demons reside. Jeanne’s task is to seal the demons before they can devour human hearts. So far she’s been able to evade the police on her midnight outings, but now another thief has come onto the scene—Phantom Sinbad—and he’s trying to take the paintings before she does!"
*** 3 stars for this series
Overall I did really like this series. It's a very cute shojo manga. A magical girl manga. Which I find harder to find in the American translated world of manga. So it's very similar in a way to Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon with a more "western" religious plot. The overall plot of Phantom Thief Jeanne manages to be to both cute while having some sad realistic moments. Most of the problems I had with what happened in this series was in the beginning and end.
I didn't really like the first volume as much as the rest of the series. I felt that it took too long to get pass the beginning of series stuff. In retrospect, I was in a huge reading slump at the time I first picked up this series. That may have been a factor of me not liking it as much. I do plan to reread this in the Japanese edition. If I can find it, I will try to read it and write a review solely on the Japanese edition.
The problems I have with volume 5 (the final volume), I will do a serapate post on. Especially cause it will have spoilers. Honestly it's not Arina Tanemura's best manga. If you either really like Arina Tanemura or magical girl manga, read it.
I will be posting a new book/manga every Tuesday on this blog for the next month.
